Fresh Chicken + New Enterprise

DEAR FRIENDS: WARM GREETINGS TO ALL ON A WARM SUMMER DAY. We hope everyone is doing well and enjoying summer. As I write, it is 102 degrees in the shade. I just checked on the dairy cows to see how they are taking the heat. To my surprise some of them are standing out in the sun instead of under the shade trees. This spring we started feeding them some new mineral blends, free choice. We are very happy with the results. They seem to take the heat better than in other years. Hopefully these benefits can be passed on to whoever drinks their delicious raw milk.

FRESH CHICKEN

WE WILL BE OFFERING FRESH CHICKEN ON JULY 14th AND 15th - ON PROCESSING DAYS. Fresh chicken will need to be preordered. We will be offering a 5% discount for all orders under 50 lbs., and 10% for orders over 50 lbs. Discounts are valid only for whole chicken or complete cut-up chicken. Please call us at 717-322-4132 to preorder or for more information.

New Enterprise - HONEY BEES

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE NOW HAVE OUR OWN HONEY BEES! However, we probably won’t be able to get much honey off of them this year. We are, however, collecting bee pollen from them, which we now have available at the market. We will also be getting some from Double Echo Apiaries (our honey supplier) to keep up with the demand.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF POLLEN? Bee pollen is highly nutritious and extremely beneficial to humans. There are 22 basic elements in the human body - enzymes, hormones, vitamins, amino acids, and others that must be renewed by nutrient intake. No one food contains them all - except bee pollen!

June 23, 2025
We had a lot of good comments about the Farm Day meal, especially the soup bones, with lots of questions about how they were prepared. So we are sharing the recipe with you. Serves 3-4. 2 soup bones with meat 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon black pepper 1 medium onion 3-4 medium carrots 1 pint bone broth Rub soup bones with salt and pepper, and put in a roasting pan with broth. Add vegetables, and bake in an oven at 150 degrees for 8-10 hours. This method can be used for any beef roast, and you can add any vegetables you have on hand.

Ancient Grains & New Products

February 28, 2025
WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE WAY OUR PORK SUPPLY LOOKS RIGHT NOW. We are running out of most of the sausage flavors. Our next pigs are going to the butcher on March 14 and should be back by the end of March in the form of sausage and bacon, etc. By the way, these pigs have been supplemented since December with ancient grains presoaked in whey and skim milk. We look forward to tasting the difference. An Important Note : For those of you who did not receive our January newsletter, we will explain the feeding change: Prior to December 2024 we fed our pigs and chickens with organically grown modern hybrid grains. But as of that month we switched to feeding them regeneratively grown, open-pollinated, ancient grains presoaked in whey and skim milk . These ancient grains are sourced from Copper Horse Farm in Lancaster County, PA.
